HULL'S DECISIVE GOAL LEADS RANDOLPH

RANDOLPH - Heading into its Morris County Tournament quarterfinal against Morris Catholic, Randolph knew its game plan needed to revolve around shutting down Crusaders forwards Bailey Chant and Angela Ryerson. “We needed to eliminate their opportunities,” Randolph head coach Colleen Suflay said. “Because once they do get the ball they are super-dangerous.” Morris Catholic’s high-powered offense had 35 goals in 10 games up until its matchup with Randolph. The Rams’ tenacious, aggressive defense clamped down and didn't allow the Crusaders to get a single shot on goal until the 31:40 mark in the second half. With under two minutes left in the first half, freshman Karen Hull poked a loose ball into the back of the net, which proved to be the game winner in Randolph’s decisive 1-0 victory over Morris Catholic on Sunday afternoon. “We just tried to play aggressive,” Suflay said. “We needed to win balls first and disallow them from making passes or connections by closing down their space, and we did that really well. They weren’t able to, as often as they have, get balls up to their forwards.” Hull’s goal came when sophomore Maddie DiFusco put a great ball into the box. Sophomore Amber Jacobsen pressured the opposing defender to make a mistake, and Hull took advantage and cleaned up the loose ball. “She plays a role on our team,” Suflay said of Hull. “We have a couple of people who are scoring goals for us. She’s getting her goals now. It was all effort.” No. 4 Randolph will take on top seed Roxbury in the semifinal round on Sunday. The Gaels defeated Chatham, 3-0, in their MCT quarterfinal matchup. “Our goal each week is to constantly evolve,” Suflay said. “They are a really talented team. We have seven days before we play them. So we are looking to grow and evolve and put out our best performance against them.”
